On Monday, just after attending the CEV European Silver League Finals held this past weekend in Strumica (North Macedonia), CEV President Aleksandar Boričić travelled to Athens, Greece, for a series of high-profile meetings with national authorities and representatives of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation. The Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Mr Lefteris Avgenakis, hosted the CEV President for a meeting attended by the President of the Hellenic Volleyball Federation, Mr Georgios Karampetsos, as well.

The discussions revolved around the possibility for Greece to organise a major European event in Volleyball or Beach Volleyball, with a focus on under-age competitions and championships. The parties reviewed the existing such opportunities as well as their readiness to support the Hellenic Volleyball Federation in such an effort. Greece has not played host to an event of this calibre for many years, as the country had to deal with the challenges brought about by a major financial crisis.

However, Volleyball is now back on track, as both the men’s and women’s national teams recently qualified for this year’s EuroVolley and a number of Greek clubs have registered for participation in the 2022 edition of the European Cups.

The CEV President will have further meetings with representatives of the Hellenic Volleyball family before attending the EOC General Assembly, which is due to take place later this week in Athens as well.
