On Wednesday, a delegation from LUNEX University – International University of Health, Exercise and Sports from Differdange, Luxembourg visited the ‘Home of European Volleyball’ to sign a three-year agreement with the CEV for the delivery of the ‘European Volleyball Management’ CPDP (Continuous Professional Development Programme).

The joint project is about offering a capacity building programme targeting specifically the middle management of National Federations. The initiative will run online through an Advanced Learning Programme, with the content covering subjects such as good governance, strategic management, marketing, digital transformation, and much more.

In addition to the challenges that they face in their respective sports, clubs and associations must deal with economic and organisational challenges resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and its consequences, including advancing digital transformation and demographic developments. Successful sports officials and managers, therefore, need an expanded range of skills and abilities. Since most of the existing education is primarily aimed at the sporting area, the cooperation between CEV and LUNEX University will be closing this gap. Building up on LUNEX expertise in sports management, the four-month executive certificate covers five main areas starting with governance and law, followed by marketing and sponsoring, finance and economics, digital transformation and strategic management, to finish it off with communication and event management.

The offer is primarily aimed at employees of National Federations and volleyball clubs as well as active players who are already planning their post-career. The English-language certificate programme is offered annually from March to June, with LUNEX University responsible for the content delivery.

Prof Dr Andreas Mierau, LUNEX Academic Director, Mathieu Winand, Professor of Sport Management, and Sebastian Merten, a Lecturer at LUNEX University and project manager for this programme, all attended the signing ceremony. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić expressed his delight at this initiative, which is in line with the CEV’s strategic view to provide member National Federations with further opportunities to grow the game and their skills at all levels.
