Earlier this week, the President of the Botswana Volleyball Federation, Ms Tsosi Magang, paid a two-day visit to the home of European Volleyball in Luxembourg City to have a series of meetings with the staff working at the CEV headquarters, thereby exchanging experiences and knowledge – and learning from one another.

Ms Magang, herself a former Volleyball player and elite track and field athlete who represented her home country at a number of major events, including the 1994 Commonwealth Games, has been at the helm of the Botswana Volleyball Federation for a few months only, but she has an impressive background not only as sport administrator but from the corporate world as well.

“I am going to cherish this visit for a very long time. I am obviously not going to invent the wheel – knowing that many people have already worked on and refined the processes we have talked about, but I take so much valuable information from my meetings and exchanges with the CEV staff that I now wish to pass on to the members of my organisation and committees. We will have to adjust to our resources and the circumstances in Botswana where I wish to grow the game especially at the grassroots."

Ms Magang made good use of the time spent in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to have a better understanding of the CEV’s current and future plans and programmes, with a focus on development, but also on digital assets, Beach Volleyball and Volleyball activities. Most recently, Botswana qualified a men’s team to next year’s Beach Volleyball World Championships in Mexico – and this is the next major highlight that the local Volleyball family can look forward to – along with the qualifiers for next year’s African Games in Ghana.

What stands out after two days filled with productive meetings and interesting chats is that Volleyball truly unites – and people even from the most diverse backgrounds do share one common goal, which is to grow the sport and spread positive values that can help mould tomorrow’s citizens and a better society.
