Earlier this month (May 16 to 20), the Youth Volleyball Championships named after Khachik Asmaryan, former president of the Armenian Volleyball Federation and long-time head coach of the Armenian women’s national volleyball team, were held in the country’s capital, Yerevan. Six girls’ and four boys’ teams participated in the competition. They first competed in preliminary groups, followed by the subsequent semi-final and final matches.

The boys and girls of Arabkir crowned themselves Armenian youth national champions for 2026

The final matches were fiercely contested and the teams involved all delivered an impressive performance. The girls representing Arabkir claimed the girls’ final, where they defeated the Ajapnyak team in five sets. The third place was taken by Team HMMD, whose members managed to edge their rivals representing HMOMMM.

The final match in the boys’ competition was also closely fought. The Arabkir team won the first two sets, after which the Nor-Nork side was able to respond and make up for their early deficit. Only in the fifth set did the Arabkir team manage to win and emerge as the national champions for 2026.

The top three teams were awarded medals and cups, and the best athletes across the competition received specially designed prizes. The referees and organisers of the championship were presented with ad-hoc mementos as well.
