This past month, the Icelandic Volleyball Association (BLI) focussed primarily on the delivery of end-of-year tournaments run in conjunction with the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’. The last activity of the school year took place on May 20 and 21.

For the very first time, the BLI have delivered a School Project-related activity in a small town in the west of the country in the Borgarbyggð region, with participation of residents from Hvanneyri, Reykholt, and Kleppjárnsreykir. The population in these three villages stands at approximately 400 people. The event featured 13 children (five boys and eight girls) from the fourth and fifth grade (this number corresponds to the total number of students of this age in the area). The participating schools were two, grunnskóli Borgarfjarðar 1-4 grade and grunnskóli Borgarfjarðar 5-10 grade.

The other two events organised in May were two national-level tournaments for players aged 11-16. The first event took place in the eastern fjords, namely in Neskaupstadur. The second was held at the opposite end of the country, in the town of Ísafjördur. Both events brought together nearly 300 kids – about 120 from across the country in Neskaupstadur, while there were as many as 160 in Ísafjördur.
