Wilfredo Leon joins ranks of elite players supporting #1DayMore4Volleyball

Luxembourg, February 17, 2020. Superstar Wilfredo Leon, whom many regard as the best Volleyball player in the world, has joined the likes of Eda Erdem, Tijana Boskovic, Uros Kovacevic, Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Aleksandar Atanasijevic to mobilise people to play Volleyball on this year’s leap day by taking up the #VolleySkillChallenge launched by the CEV.
Leon, who has been playing since last season for Italian powerhouse Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA, showed his ability to play the ball with his full body while inviting people to celebrate #1DayMore4Volleyball on February 29. “Let’s play some Volleyball on a special day, February 29. Gather your friends and celebrate in the best way: through a Volleyball party,” reads the Instagram post published by Leon, where he invites teammates Luciano De Cecco and Filippo Lanza to try the challenge as well.
Meanwhile, the numbers have moved to 147,864 people due to play Volleyball on February 29, accounting for as many as 10,902 matches across 2,367 venues. The figures speak for themselves and for the real Volleyball fever ignited by this action, which the CEV established for the first time four years ago, but the numbers have more than tripled since the 2016 edition.
With people from across Europe, young and old, due to play the game, the CEV will be sending out a terrific message of inclusion, emphasising that Volleyball truly is a sport for all. Moreover, the CEV will deliver their own event in close cooperation with the Austrian Volleyball Federation. This will be taking place at the iconic Palmenhaus in Vienna and involve even some of the highest-ranking authorities in the world of Volleyball as well as the delegates due to attend an Extraordinary General Assembly on the very same day in the Austrian capital.
