It is with great sadness that the European Volleyball family has learned that renowned Norwegian coach Tore Aleksandersen died earlier this week at the young age of 55.

A native of Molde, Aleksandersen travelled the world coaching in Finland, Germany, Japan, Poland, and USA. He was especially successful with Germany’s SCHWERINER SC – triumphing in the Bundesliga (2006) and a year later in the national cup as well. A few years later, in 2011, he helped SCHWERINER SC claim the Bundesliga title again. He coached the women’s national teams of Norway and Finland and spent a few years in Poland, where he was at the helm of elite teams such as Impel WROCLAW and BKS BIELSKO-BIALA. Most recently, and while already dealing with the diagnosis of prostate cancer, Aleksandersen achieved success with Germany’s Allianz MTV STUTTGART – claiming the Bundesliga titles in 2022 and 2023, the national cup in 2022 – a season where he helped his team reach the final of the CEV Cup as well. The father of three left the team at the end of the past season due to health reasons.

“Tore was a coach who left a mark and delivered results that no other Norwegian coach in indoor Volleyball or other major sports for that matter can match. He had visions, plans, and ambitions. Tore Aleksandersen has meant a lot to many people around the communities he has worked in. Those who have stood by Tore’s side throughout his adult life bear the greatest sorrow today."

Eirik Sørdahl
President of the Norwegian Volleyball Association

The most heartfelt condolences go out to Mr Aleksandersen’s family and friends at this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
