The work to grow Volleyball at the grassroots level across Azerbaijan currently goes through as many as eight regional development centres run under the supervision and authority of the main such ‘hub’ located in Baku. This structure facilitates the dissemination of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ across the country and the work of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) to inspire the next generation of players.

Most recently, the regional centre responsible for the northern section of the country did run a Volleyball festival in conjunction with celebrations organised to pay tribute to the former leader of Azerbaijan, Mr Heydar Aliyev. The events run in the cities of Sheki and Qusar did involve more than 500 children overall. The activities included Volleyball played in local parks as well as a large party with music and entertainment, followed by matches contested at the local Olympic Centres in each city. A similar action shall take place in January via the development centre in charge of Azerbaijan’s western region.

Next to this, the AVF recently ran workshops for PE teachers with a renowned instructor from Türkiye, Mr Cengiz Akarcesme, to improve the knowledge of the game and identify suitable drills and exercises to engage with school pupils in the most effective and fun way possible.
