CEV President praises Azerbaijan’s efforts to grow youth Volleyball

This past April CEV President Roko Sikirić paid a three-day visit to Baku, Azerbaijan. The programme devised for the leader of European Volleyball included a meeting with the Head of the Department for the development of children’s Volleyball, Dr Cengiz Akarcesme, as well as with coaches working with the youth national teams. The CEV President could also meet with the members of the girls’ national team with the conversation taking place in a very friendly atmosphere.

The CEV President was informed that after completion of the Azerbaijani Super League, which ended with the triumphs of Azerrail’s men and women at the National Gymnastics Arena, the playoff stage of the children’s championship will begin and take centre stage. More than 133 teams have been involved in this event, thereby accounting for as many as 1,561 participating kids – which represents truly a major achievement for the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation. The CEV President highlighted the importance of developing children’s Volleyball and said that in two years only, Azerbaijan has achieved much progress in this area. He also said the CEV would continue to devise programmes specifically designed for youth Volleyball and encouraged the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation to get involved.
