CEV President explores ways to grow Volleyball in Moldova during high-profile meetings with national authorities

This past week, CEV President Roko Sikirić travelled to the Republic of Moldova for a series of high-profile meetings with national authorities while the country was playing host to this year’s U22 Beach Volleyball Championships annually run by the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA). 

During his meeting with the country’s Minister of Education and Research, Mr Dan Perciun, the CEV President discussed potential common projects designed specifically to strengthen and elevate the profile of Volleyball across the Republic of Moldova. Mr Perciun, on the other hand, expressed his readiness and desire to channel resources provided by the government towards team sports – including Volleyball, which would represent a major shift in the strategy pursued this far in Moldova. 

The two parties praised the work of the Volleyball Federation of the Republic of Moldova – and there remains much room for growth though through the organisation of events and by further expanding the reach and scope of the CEV School Project, of which Moldova has been a partner since November 2021. 

The discussions focussed on a multilateral partnership involving the government, the National Federation, and the CEV – plus the National Olympic Committee, which is also ready to provide further support to any joint activities run by the National Federation and the CEV. During his stay in Chisinau, the CEV President also had a productive meeting with the Vice-President and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, Larisa Popova and Zalina Marghiev, thereby laying the groundwork for future endeavours uniting all of the relevant stakeholders.
