The European Volleyball family wishes to pay tribute to Mr Philippe Beuchet, who passed away this past Sunday at the age of 83.

Philippe was an energetic person who devoted his entire life to the sport of Volleyball, chairing, among other things, the C.N.M. Charenton Volley-ball club from 1970 until his death and working tirelessly for the growth of the game in France and across Europe as well.

Mr Beuchet played a leading role in the organisation of the historic men’s World Championship held in France in 1986 as well as in the development of the Olympic village for Nordic sports established in conjunction with the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville.

Philippe was a very discreet and soft-spoken man who always preferred to remain in the shadows, but countless people have benefited from his extensive expertise and knowhow – which he would share in his capacity of CEV Supervisor as well. Despite the challenges brought about by illness, Mr Beuchet remained very close to the Volleyball family and especially to the French Volleyball Federation – where he was responsible for International Affairs for many years – until the very end of his long and fulfilled life.

We extend the most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, as we remember a man who spent his whole life in and for Volleyball.
