As he continues to travel across Europe to share his vision and unify the Volleyball family under his leadership, CEV President Roko Sikirić is currently paying a visit to Spain where on Sunday he attended the Ordinary General Assembly of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB). By doing so, he openly acknowledged the important role that Spain and the local Volleyball community have been and are playing on the international stage, while expressing his wish to work together with the RFEVB leadership on joint projects, since – as he said – ‘the successes of Spanish Volleyball are also the successes of European Volleyball as a whole’.

The CEV President also emphasised his vision for Spain to welcome large-scale major international events, such as EuroVolley, whereby the RFEVB would be able to raise the profile of Volleyball across the Iberian country in a very competitive environment - since Spain is a major force to reckon with in a variety of team sports such as football, basketball, handball, hockey, and water polo.

The Ordinary General Assembly held at Madrid Club de Campo was an opportunity to meet with other key stakeholders, such as the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Mr Alejandro Blanco, who did also encourage the attendees to continue their work to promote the growth of the sport. “Spanish sport needs Volleyball, and from what I have seen, you are clear about where you want to go and how to achieve your goals. It is your job to continue working toward these goals, and to do so, you have our full support and that of all Spanish sports,” Blanco said.

Later in the afternoon, the CEV President toured the state-of-the-art Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro, a permanent Beach Volleyball facility which has made a name for itself through the successful organisation and delivery of many Beach Volleyball events. In just a few weeks, two single-gender Beach Pro Tour Futures will be taking place there as well as a qualifier for this year’s Beach Volley Nations Cup. Moreover, later this summer, Madrid and more specifically Puerta de Hierro will welcome the rising stars of European beach Volleyball for this year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU20 – where the home teams will be serious contenders for the medals.

Accompanied by CEV Vice-President in charge of Administrative Affairs Leonel Salgueiro and RFEVB President Felipe Pascual, the CEV President has more high-profile meetings scheduled during his stay in Madrid, including with Mr Fernando Molinero, General Director of the CSD (Consejo Superior de Deportes), the authority within the Spanish government which is in charge of overseeing sports across the Iberian country.
