WEVZA Technical Commission defines 2020 calendar with focus on youth competitions

Porto, Portugal, November 15, 2019. The Technical Commission of the Western European Volleyball Zonal Association (WEVZA) composed by Leonel Salgueiro (Portugal), Luis Muchaga (Spain), Britta Brisken (Germany), Bert Korteling (Netherlands) and Bertrand Leys (France) joined a video conference on Friday to define strategies and proposals for 2020 in order to increase the WEVZA activities.

Portugal will host next January the WEVZA Women’s U17 Tournament, which accounts as the first round of zonal qualifications for next year’s European Championship in this age group due to take place in Montenegro. The eventual winners of the competition will secure their participation in the event that the Balkan country will be hosting in Podgorica. A similar event for the U18 Men will be taking place in Spain – with the winners qualifying for the Final Round that Italy and Greece will be co-hosting later in the summer.

The Technical Commission confirmed the following Volleyball competitions for 2020:
•    WEVZA Men’s U18 European qualifier in January – Spain
•    WEVZA Women’s U17 European qualifier in January – Portugal
•    WEVZA Men’s U18 Championship in July – Spain
•    WEVZA Women’s U18 Championship in July – Belgium

Moreover, the WEVZA Beach Volleyball calendar includes:
•    WEVZA Men’s and Women’s U18 Championships in June – Germany
•    WEVZA Men and Women’s U20 Championships – Italy (date TBD)

Besides these competitions, WEVZA will organise a seminar for coaches and referees in July in Spain as well as an Exchange Seminar for coaches in a place and date TBD.
