CEV Coaches Convention 2026 combines theory with practical sessions and networking opportunities

The CEV Coaches Convention 2026 took place from 12 to 14 June in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, bringing together coaches and teachers from across Europe for three days of learning, exchange, and practical engagement.
This year’s Convention focussed on the role of grassroots coaches in creating positive, inclusive, and development-oriented Volleyball experiences for children and young players. The programme combined theoretical sessions, practical demonstrations, group work, and open discussions, thus allowing participants to not only learn from experienced speakers but also actively contribute their own ideas and coaching approaches.
The Convention featured internationally recognised experts, including John Kessel, Mark Lebedew, Rosana Krajnc, and moderator Jana Kulan, who guided participants through key topics such as grassroots coaching, age-appropriate physical preparation, player development, creativity in training, and the broader impact coaches can have beyond sharing technical skills.
A strong emphasis was placed on practical learning. Participants had the opportunity to observe and test different exercises, work in groups, exchange best practices, and receive direct feedback from the speakers. The practical sessions with young volunteers also provided a valuable opportunity to connect theory with real coaching situations and to reflect on how children can be engaged through fun, safe, and meaningful activities.
The event also created an important space for networking and collaboration among coaches from different countries and backgrounds. Through group discussions and shared activities, participants explored how the ideas presented during the Convention could be adapted and implemented in their own national and local contexts.
The CEV Coaches Convention 2026 once again highlighted CEV’s commitment to supporting coach education, promoting grassroots development, and strengthening the European Volleyball community. The Convention concluded with a strong sense of shared motivation, practical inspiration, and renewed commitment to making Volleyball more accessible, enjoyable, and impactful for the next generation.
