Last Saturday, the 8th edition of the Savinjska Valley U14 Volleyball Cup was held with the event run under the scope of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ breaking all previous participation records with as many as 96 teams of young girls and boys playing Volleyball in Šempeter and nearby areas. Young players from all over Slovenia gathered to display their skills and love for Volleyball to their biggest supporters – parents, grandparents, and friends.

Teams competed in three categories across different locations in Šempeter, Prebold, Petrovče, Griže, Žalec, and Braslovče, with a total of 17 courts set up. Over 1,100 players took part in the event, thereby playing 177 matches throughout the day.

In the girls’ category, Nova KBM Branik emerged victorious, while Izola finished the tournament in second place ahead of Calcit Volley I. In the boys’ category, Calcit Volley I came out on top, followed by ŠD Brezovica and Črnuče I. In the beginners’ category, Braslovče II (boys) took first place, followed by Calcit Volley II (boys) and Izola II (girls) in second and third place, respectively.

However, events like this are not much about competition and final standings as their main aim is to support the next generation of volleyball players and to provide opportunities for young athletes to learn, grow, and have fun while playing Volleyball. Such events play a crucial role in promoting Volleyball among children in Slovenia and spread the love of the game even further.

The Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS) would like to thank the organisers at OK SIP Šempeter for hosting this fantastic event, as well as all sponsors and partners, especially VBO - Digitalno zdravstvo, for all their support.
