The winners of the #1DayMore4Volleyball contest are confirmed! Hundreds of Volleyball fans from across Europe and even further afield did register and share their posts to report on actions organised in conjunction with this year’s leap day and become a contender for some highly coveted prizes at stake.
The purpose of this year’s #1DayMore4Volleyball action was to send out a clear message that Volleyball truly is a sport for everyone, regardless of physical skills, age, gender, etc. Therefore, with such a focus placed on creativity, diversity, and inclusion, the contestants came up with some cool ideas to encapsulate the core message of the campaign.
The winner in the ‘inclusion’ category is a video produced by the Austrian Deaf Sport Association (OeGSV) featuring Beach Volleyball player Thomas Kunert coaching a team comprising of Benedikt and Bernhard and released under the slogan ‘We might not hear but we can play beach!”. The much-desired prize at stake in this category is a journey to this year’s CEV Champions League Super Finals scheduled for early May.
Moving to the ‘diversity’ category, a video produced by the Vellaznimi Volleyball club from the city of Gjakova, Kosovo, has taken first place. The video released on Instagram features youngsters setting up a volleyball court in the city centre and joined by students from a nearby school and other by-passers as they play the game.
Two of the people ‘catching the volleyball fever’ are well-known faces in Kosovo – renowned comedian Sevdai Radogoshi and Tirron Mamusha, a half-marathon runner. The winners are awarded with a package to attend the final stage of this year’s EuroBeachVolley in the Netherlands.
‘Creativity’ was another area of focus in this year’s #1DayMore4Volleyball campaign – with fans invited to show their ability to play Volleyball in a rather unconventional way in terms of the surrounding environment, the equipment used, etc. thereby showing that Volleyball can be played anywhere and at any time!
Three monetary prizes were at stake in this category with first place going to a video produced and released by the Daugavpils Sports School in Latvia, whereas second and third place have been claimed by clips shared by the Volleyball Club Tbilisi Foxes (Georgia) and Lithuania’s Tautvilé Jak.
Obviously, as it happened in 2016 and 2020, with #1DayMore4Volleyball the CEV’s goal was also to mobilise as many people as possible to play the game on February 29. Therefore, three prizes were at stake in the ‘mass participation’ category, each one implying the provision of a contingent of Mikasa balls to make sure that the youngsters will continue to enjoy playing the game.
The winners are Malta’s St. Clare College – San Gwann Primary School, the Armenian Volleyball Federation for the event delivered against the iconic backdrop of the ‘Symphony of the Stones’ gorge in Garni and the OK Nasa skola sporta Kakanj from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
#1DayMore4Volleyball will return in 2028 when we get to celebrate the next leap day, however people from all ages and backgrounds should not wait until then to have their own share of fun, because every day is a good day to play Volleyball and to have fun with it!
