The remaining five editions of the Men's Olympic Volleyball Tournament were won each by a different country, namely: Japan, Poland, Netherlands and the former Yugoslavia.
The Gold medals are less evenly distributed in women's volleyball where in the fourteen editions of the Women's Olympic Volleyball Tournament only five different countries have ever won: Brazil, Cuba, China, Japan and the former Soviet Union.
The 18 women’s World Championship tournaments have been won by seven different national teams. Russia have won seven times (five as Soviet Union). The reigning World Champions for men are Poland, whilst Serbia won the women’s competition beating Italy in a tense five set match.
