Match Report

Belgium overpowered Poland in five sets

Article

Belgium showed tonight that they are a team to count on in this European Championships. Poland started as an intense attacking machine in first set and Belgium had to chase the heels of the host nation the entire set.
In the second set, Herbots (BEL) was the big star in both attack and in defence and The Yellow Tigers were two points in front of Poland almost the entire set. After 14 - 14 Belgium took the command and ended up in thrilling Poland winning by 27 -25.
Belgium started to smell the victory in the packed Atlas Arena in Lodz and their consistency in reception and attacks, but over all the brilliance in skills from setter and captain Van de Vyver, made Belgium the strongest team today.

Day 6 Recap

Play

"I told my teammates yesterday that if we want to beat a stronger team which Poland definitely is we have to go a little crazy on the court. Among our today's assets was our enthusiasm. It was a very nice game to watch, fans saw many amazing rallies. We managed to overcome all the difficult situations today, we really sticked together"

Britt Herbots
outside-spiker for Belgium

"We let Belgium beat us today. This game was our loss. I feel anger, it's difficult for me to explain why we keep on losing advantages that we build. We will have to improve our team in defense"

Malwina Smarzek-Godek
outside-spiker for Poland
