Overview

The CEV ranking neighbours are in completely different phases of building a solid national team. Slovenia took the 21st place at the last EuroVolley in 2017 but they are on the right way to improve this result now. The experienced Italian coach Alessandro Chiappini knows how to bring the most out of his players and will do everything to prove that his Slovenian U-23 World Championship silver medallists are now ready to step their game up in senior volleyball.

Historic win for Slovenia

Article

Slovenia took their first victory ever in an European Championships. Four years ago they took only one set in their first appearance ever in EuroWolley. Then against Italy.
Although Portugal pushed Slovenia to a time out at 16 - 14 in the first set.
Coach Alessandro Chiappini tried a different rooster and put Sara Najdić instead of the first setter and captain Eva Mori. This turned out to be a good decision. Portugal stepped up with way more confidence today and had their first close game today.

Day 3 Recap

Play

"We didn't play our volleyball in the first two sets. But in the third set we presented what we can do. We all knew we could afford a good game. The third set was really fantastic"

Slovenia celebrate at the final whistle

”We've made too many mistakes in every element of the game - at serve, in the reception and attack. It wasn't a good match. We've run out of something in each set. In the first two, admittedly at the very end, but we lost. In the third set, Slovenia was much better than us.”
