What a great environment for the young players involved in the Schools National Championship Year 11 Finals organised by the Malta Volleyball Association on January 25!

The event formed part of the CEV School Project and was organised by the Malta Volleyball Association in collaboration with the Education Department and SportMalta.

These Finals followed the qualifying round held earlier in December, where as many as 13 teams were in action. Four boys’ teams and four girls’ teams qualified and played in a round-robin format at the Cottonera Sport Complex. The games were played on a best out of three sets on 15 points.

The qualified schools were Savio College, St Paul’s Missionary College, SGPC Hamrun Secondary and MRC Lily of the Valley Mosta Secondary in the boys’ category. The girls’ finalists were STMC St Lucia secondary, STMC Zejtun Secondary, MRC Zokrija Mosta Secondary and MRC Lily of the Valley Mosta Secondary.

The champions in each category were SGPC Hamrun Secondary for the boys and MRC Zokrija Mosta Secondary for the girls.

Both teams managed to win all their three games, but all were very close and hard fought, with half of them going in the third set to decide the winner.

Present for the competition was Mr Goran Ilic, Head Coach of the Maltese senior and junior national teams.
