When it comes to CEV School Project activities run throughout November, Volleyball Ireland focused largely on provincial blitzes organised for as many as 119 teams and approximately 700 students aged between 11-13 years old, who took part in fun non-competitive matches against schools from their regions.

Ollie Hally, Head Coach of Portlaoise College and participant in the CEV Coaches Convention 2022 attended the November 30 fun blitz in Dublin:

“It is incredible to see so many children playing today. This age group have not really had time to practice being new to the school so events like this really help make sure kids are attracted to Volleyball when deciding which school sports to take part in. All students did not want to go home and have been telling me about what a great day they had!”

For the more competitive older students, a total of 313 school matches were played between the U16 and U18 national championships. These included the group stages and quarterfinals. The finals will be hosted in the capital city of Dublin on December 12 for the U18 six divisions followed by January 26 for the U16 age group.

Volleyball Ireland student educational programmes also continued with two more schools getting involved in the six-week programme of coaching and refereeing. Portlaoise College and St Leo’s College selected 33 students to take part in this heavily subscribed programme.
