Earlier this week, in an effort to promote a continued exchange of views with key stakeholders, CEV President Roko Sikirić travelled to Poland for a first, historic meeting with PlusLiga and TAURON Liga clubs, and the Board of the Polish Volleyball League (PLS) to discuss development plans for European competitions in the coming years.

The meeting reflects the CEV President's wish to promote a continued dialogue with all stakeholders to devise plans for a bright future of the CEV European Cups

The CEV delegation was in Warsaw for a short, multi-day meeting, the highlight of which was a panel discussion with the Polish Volleyball League and Polish Volleyball Federation authorities, as well as representatives of PlusLiga and TAURON Liga clubs. Representatives of clubs from both Polish professional leagues were able to share their thoughts, plans, and comments.

“It is very important that there is transparent and good communication between us and the European Confederation. I feel that such a meeting was very necessary,” said Artur Popko, President of the Polish Volleyball League. “The topics discussed were very broad, from minor issues in the daily operations of our clubs competing in the European arena to the development strategy for the competitions in the coming years.”

The CEV representatives assured that the biggest challenge for the clubs and the European Confederation will be streamlining the competition calendar. “We are waiting for specific solutions proposed by the FIVB, then we will be able to return to you with more feedback. We are counting on positive changes that will allow us to better utilise the potential of the European Cups and of the national league competitions,” the CEV President said.

The historic meeting was held earlier this week in Warsaw

During the meeting, commitments were made to refine the details of cooperation between PlusLiga and TAURON clubs participating in the European Cups and the CEV.

“This meeting, likely not the last, is a clear signal that certain changes are coming to European and world Volleyball, which are simply necessary for our sport to effectively compete for fans with basketball or handball. Without such discussions and the development of a common strategy, we will not be competitive in the market,” Mr Popko emphasised.

The CEV President also confirmed that he will host similar meetings with representatives of other key leagues across Europe.
