CEV President takes positives from high-level talks with Polish Volleyball leaders
News
Earlier this week, CEV President Roko Sikirić travelled to Poland for a series of high-profile meetings with local authorities as well as to attend the eagerly anticipated men’s Super Cup matchup contested at the iconic Spodek Arena in Katowice – where Aluron CMC Warta ZAWIERCIE edged JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel at the tiebreak at the end of a truly dramatic match played in an electrifying atmosphere.
Mr Sikirić did meet with the highest authorities from the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS) – namely their President Sebastian Swiderski and Vice-Presidents Andrzej Lemek and Artur Popko, emphasising his readiness and willingness to cooperate on a variety of common projects likely to raise the quality, level, and profile of European Volleyball even further. With Poland a Volleyball-mad nation and knowing the outstanding level of the Polish national league, any such cooperation can only be highly beneficial for the long-term growth of European Volleyball at all levels.
Moreover, the CEV President enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Katowice, Mr Marcin Krupa, as well as with the Deputy Minister of Sport, and with the head coach of the Polish men’s national team, former Volleyball star Nikola Grbić, who recently helped Poland claim silver at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – the first such medal for the country since their historic Olympic triumph in 1976.
The busy agenda of the CEV President included also a tour of Katowice as well as of the iconic Spodek Arena, which is regarded as the real ‘Mecca’ of Polish Volleyball and has played host to an impressive number of major international competitions, including the final stage of the CEV EuroVolley Men in 2021. At the end of his stay in Katowice, the CEV President thanked his Polish colleagues for the productive conversations as well as for their warm hospitality.
