CEV President Aleksandar Boričič is currently paying a visit to North Macedonia, where on Friday he had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Balkan country, Zoran Zaev, to discuss, among other things on the agenda, the application of the Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia (VFM) to host one of the preliminary pools of CEV EuroVolley 2023 Men. The Government in Skopje is supporting the plan to host this prestigious event according to the highest standards.

It seems that Macedonian Volleyball is living the dream again. After Team MKD made their maiden EuroVolley appearance two years ago and performed well in their group in Ljubljana, and this past January they found the right path towards joining the European elite again, the Macedonian Volleyball family is now looking forward to the opportunity of co-hosting EuroVolley in 2023.

“With the Government of North Macedonia supporting the organisation of major European events at the highest standards, such as the upcoming European Silver League Finals, #EuroVolleyU19W in 2022 and one pool of the CEV EuroVolley 2023 Men, the Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia has come very close to the best organisers of major Volleyball events in Europe.”

The President of VFM Petar Jovanovski, Vice President Stojan Ivanov, as well as Secretary General Zoran Karanovic attended the meeting with the Prime Minister as well. They all hope that the CEV Board of Administration will soon confirm that the Macedonian Volleyball family will receive this great honour and responsibility.

“We highly commend the leadership of the Volleyball Federation of North Macedonia headed by Petar Jovanovski for their active cooperation with the European Confederation. With your support, they have ensured a better functioning of the Federation, the ability to organise top European events and high performance of their athletes,” the CEV President said to the Prime Minister.

“I am happy for this honour received from CEV. I express my strong support to Macedonian Volleyball, which in the last few years has achieved great results internationally. For me, the satisfaction is even greater because many of the Volleyball players are from the city of Strumica where I come from too.”

This positive development comes shortly before Team MKD begin their preparations for the CEV European Silver League 2021. The first tournament in their pool from May 21 to 23 as well as the Final Four on June 5-6 will be taking place at the ‘Park’ hall in Strumica, and that will be an additional advantage to support the ambitions to win the gold medal after three unsuccessful finals. Then, the next goal will be an eight-final appearance at the CEV EuroVolley 2021 later this summer. All of this guarantees an inspiring Volleyball summer in the small Balkan country with big dreams.
