The annual General Assembly of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) was organised this past weekend in Riga in close cooperation with and with much support provided by the Volleyball Federation of Latvia.

Delegates from seven countries and special guests attended the General Assembly held in Riga

The meeting was attended by delegates from Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine, who discussed and reviewed a number of key items, such as the calendar for the championships scheduled for 2025 and 2026, updates to the Competitions Regulations for both Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, the innovative EEVZA Empowerment Programme specifically designed to support the work of the member federations, the financial report for 2024, and the budget for 2025.

Since there have been a few changes at the helm of a number of Federations, this was an opportunity to congratulate newly elected or re-elected Presidents such as Arnis Tunte (Latvia), Darius Cerka (Lithuania) and Georgi Kartvelishvili (Georgia).

The delegates did also celebrate the 20th anniversary since the establishment of the zonal association

Moreover, since EEVZA is celebrating this year the 20th anniversary since its foundation, some honorary guests attended the meeting as well, including Maris Pekalis (LAT) who was involved in the foundation of the organisation and was the first EEVZA President and Atis Sausnitis, former president of the Latvian Volleyball Federation (now a member of its Management Board) who made significant investments in helping founding and consolidating the zonal association as well.

The delegates could enjoy a review of the EEVZA’s first 20 years prepared  by Secretary General Inara Brokane and were introduced to historical facts and figures, all presented by Mr Pekalis. They all received memory gifts especially designed for this occasion and attended an official lunch as well.
