The Volleyball family mourns the premature death of renowned Italian coach Daniele Bagnoli, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 71 after a long illness.

Bagnoli holds the record for the most titles in the Italian men's national league

Born in 1953 in Mantua, Bagnoli is widely regarded as a visionary coach. He does hold the all-time record for the most titles – eight – in the highly competitive and prestigious Italian men’s national league with as many as eight crowns secured while working with elite, star-studded teams in Modena and Treviso. This is a record that he shares with another legendary coach, Franco Anderlini. His personal resume includes as many as five triumphs in the CEV Champions League and another five titles from across other European Cups competitions.

Bagnoli was among the first Italian coaches to venture abroad, leading the Russian men’s national team from 2009 to 2011. He shared his coaching philosophy and unparalleled knowledge of the game also while working in countries as diverse as Iran, Türkiye, Qatar, Tunisia, and Germany.

While cherishing his memory and invaluable legacy, CEV President Roko Sikirić and everyone at the CEV extend their most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Bagnoli. May he rest in peace.
