Despite suffering this setback earlier in the season, Omonia currently top the charts of the men’s national league on 22 points even though they have contested two matches less than their closest rivals – Apoel NICOSIA.

In another sensational match, Olympiada NEAPOLIS claimed the women’s title by edging Property Gallery Apollon LIMASSOL 3-2 at the Lefkotheo Sports Centre. The eventual winners took a 2-0 lead, but Apollon mobilised their strength to draw level. Everything was decided in the tiebreak where Olympiada had the upper hand to seize the title for the first time in their history.

The very same two teams – Olympiada and Apollon – currently occupy the top spots in the standings of the national league after completion of nine rounds. The next five matches remaining before the end of the first phase will be key since after 14 matches, the eight participating teams will be divided into two groups – with the top four competing for the title and those ranked from places 5 to 8 will be vying to stay in the highest division of the national league.
