KhMOMM and Arabkir triumph at Armenian Youth National Championships

The 2021 edition of the Armenian Youth Volleyball Championships named after Khachik Asmaryan - a great Volleyball figure, Honoured Master of Sports, renowned coach and former President of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) - ran from May 17 to 22, 2021 in Yerevan with participation of five and six teams in the competitions held for girls and boys, respectively.

The organisers delivered a solemn opening ceremony at Dinamo Gymnasium of the Armenian capital city attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (ESCS), the Armenian Olympic Committee, a number of Armenian national federations, Khachik Asmaryan’s former students and fans. The honorary guests received commemoratives medals and other prizes paying tribute to the late Khachik Asmaryan.
The actual competition took place at two different venues, with the boys playing in Dinamo Arena and the girls in ASUE Arena. After five days of action, the team of KhMOMM beat Van 3-1 in the girls’ final match to claim top honours. Team Arabkir were the winners of the boys’ tournament following their 3-0 shutout of KhMOMM in the final.

The members of the top teams received diplomas, medals, cups, and the best players of the championship travelled home with the addition of some special prizes. Special mementos went to the referees as well as to the students of the late Khachik Asmaryan.
On June 1, the Armenian Junior Championship will get underway in Ashtarak with the participation of U15 boys and girls.
