Geghashen and Arabkir win U16 Khachatryan Memorial Tournament in Armenia

The Perch Khachatryan U16 Memorial Tournament was held this past week in the Armenian city of Etchmiadzin, with participation of five men’s (Arabkir, HMMD, Ashtarak, Etchmiadzin, and Gavar) and six women’s teams (Avan, Geghashen, Arinj, Etchmiadzin, HMMD, Ashtarak).

These competed in subgroups for the first three game days, which were followed by final and other classification matches. Team Ashtarak and Team Avan locked horns for the bronze medals in the women’s competition, with Avan scoring a 2-0 victory. HMMD and Geghashen played for the title, with Geghashen emerging victorious (2-1).

Teams Gavar and Ashtarak were involved in the men’s ‘small final’, with Gavar registering a 2-0 victory. Arabkir and HMMD delivered a tense and dramatic men’s final, with Arabkir ultimately defeating the opponent in straight sets.

The winning teams were awarded with medals and cups, and the best athletes were given special gifts as well. Nelly Khachatryan (Geghashen) and Sergey Tsakanyan (Arabkir) were recognised as the best players of the tournament. Moreover, specially designed gifts were provided by the Volleyball Federation of Armenia (VFA) to the management of the Etchmiadzin Children’s and Youth Sports School and to the referees of the competition.
