In a truly defining moment for the sport, this past weekend Felipe Pascual Bernáldez was elected President of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB). The Madrid native won the majority of the newly constituted RFEVB Assembly, securing 36 votes compared to the 13 received by his opponent, Ms María Isabel Zamora Gómez. The RFEVB General Assembly met this past Sunday in Madrid in an extraordinary session with a single item on the agenda: the election of the new head of the Spanish Volleyball family.

Pascual is the ninth president to lead the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) in its history

The Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation embarks on a new chapter under the leadership of Felipe Pascual, who will hold the position for the next four years, succeeding Agustín Martín Santos, who had been at the helm of the organisation since 2000. After his election, Felipe Pascual addressed the Assembly to express his gratitude to “the members and those who voted for this opportunity to serve as RFEVB President. We are facing the most important four years for Spanish Volleyball.” He called for unity, emphasising that “nobody here is superfluous. We must work together to take Volleyball to where it deserves to be.”

At the same Extraordinary General Assembly, members of the Delegate Committee were also chosen. Together with the new president’s executive team and the General Assembly, they will guide the RFEVB over the next four years.

Felipe Pascual, ninth president in RFEVB history

Felipe Pascual, born in Madrid in 1977, is the ninth president in RFEVB history. An industrial engineer by profession, his passion for Volleyball inspired him to establish the Vóley Playa Madrid club in 2002, after previously starting his journey as a player and coach. Under his leadership, the club achieved the milestone of having both the men’s and women’s teams competing in the top division simultaneously.

Pascual has worn many hats in the world of Volleyball, from player, coach, and referee to executive. He has served as Supervisor for the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), thereby participating in many major international events, and acted as team delegate for the Men’s Junior National Team at the 2011 World Championship. More recently, he was appointed a member of the European Beach Volleyball Commission (EBVC).

In 2015, Pascual was elected president of the Madrid Volleyball Federation, where he demonstrated impressive management skills, fostering the growth of Volleyball within the region. His achievements include the construction of new facilities, advancing communications, negotiating numerous agreements, and organising Volleyball and Beach Volleyball events.

During his tenure, Pascual brought the VW Beach Pro Tour back to Spain, as well as age-group European Beach Volleyball Championships. In Volleyball, he organised numerous national events, including the recent King’s Cup in Leganés, a success that once again placed this Madrid town at the centre of Spanish Volleyball.
