This past January 27, 2024, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation organised a high-profile refereeing seminar with the participation of their international and first-division referees. European Refereeing Commission (ERC) President Zorica Bjelic accepted an invitation to feature as the main lecturer of the highly successful workshop, which was attended by five international referees and another 11 officiating in the first, highest division of the Cypriot national league.

Ms Bjelic was welcomed to Cyprus by the President of the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, Dr Costas Constantinou. The actual workshop featured a first session open only to the five international referees accounting for an open discussion and conversation around a variety of topics. Ms Bjelic delivered the second session addressing important refereeing items such as disciplinary control, how a referee responds to difficult situations and finally how a referee can deliver a high-quality performance in any match. Throughout the seminar, the ERC President did develop a good interaction with the attendees, by asking questions and receiving answers, and she was pleased to acknowledge the high-level skills of Cypriot referees.
A day before the seminar, Ms Bjelic had attended the men’s top-of-the-table clash between last year’s champions Omonia NICOSIA and 2023 Super cup winners Nea Salamina FAMAGUSTA at the National Sports Hall “Tassos Papadopoulos – Eleftheria”. The match finished in a thrilling 3-2 victory for the home team.
After the seminar, Cyprus Volleyball Federation President Dr Constantinou along with Board members hosted an official dinner with the ERC President.
