Belfast, Northern Ireland, April 9, 2019. The CEV Schools Project has officially got going in Northern Ireland! It started with a coaching session for teachers taking part in the project at Harpur’s Hill Primary School (PS) followed by the Mini-Volleyball training in Killowen PS in Coleraine, County Antrim.

The first phase of the project involves five Primary Schools in Coleraine, which now have the necessary equipment and trained teachers in order to carry on afterschool activities and prepare for the Mini Volleyball Festival in June.

Georgia Thomson, Primary Class 7 teacher from Killowen PS said: “The whole opportunity to partake in the Volleyball for schools and attend the CEV Coaches Convention, I believe is a fantastic unique opportunity for myself as a teacher, the schools involved but, most importantly, for the children involved. Seeing the joy and their willingness in the sessions with Joanna [McCrory] was a delight, they were keen and very eager to learn and play a new sport. The skills and practice they gained were of great quality and the session provided me with the opportunity to work alongside a professional and improve my skills as a teacher. I am very much looking forward to working with the other schools and getting as many children involved in Volleyball, it is a great skilful sport and one I feel the children will thoroughly enjoy and benefit from!”

Joanna McCrory, Project Coordinator and Vice President of Northern Ireland Volleyball said: “Our first phase of the project and seeing the enthusiasm of both teachers and children, makes me keen to get many more schools involved in the next years and spread the love and passion for the sport by developing it at grassroots level.”
