The Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) has further expanded the reach of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ across the Caucasus country. This past month members of their working group travelled to the farthest region of Azerbaijan – Nakhchivan, a landlocked exclave bordering Iran, Türkiye, and Armenia, which people can reach only by plane when coming in from Baku.

The interest in Volleyball in that region has always been impressive, but in recent times the development process did slow down following the constraints and restrictions brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. A delegation from the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation travelled to Nakhchivan in mid-November, visiting local schools and organising training sessions specifically designed for children aged between eight and 12.

The activities run the last six months show a growing interest in Volleyball among local children and the number of those involved in the sport has been growing steadily. The AVF has already devised plans to organise festivals on site with participation of clubs from the north and central regions of Azerbaijan.
