60+ coaches attend CEV School Project workshop in Slovenia

A national workshop was organised this past week in Preddvor, Slovenia under the umbrella of the CEV School Project. It was run by the Slovenia Coaches Association, aka Društva odbojkarskih trenerjev Slovenije (DOTS), with CEV providing support by sending Italy’s Alessandro Licata as an expert coach and lecturer.

The event took place on June 1 at a newly built sports facility, Športna dvorana Storžič. The main goal of the workshop was to share and spread useful knowledge for grassroots-level coaches.

Around 60 coaches were in attendance. During the morning session, Licata discussed the development of defence techniques in younger age categories via the detection of signals and training of reaction skills, while overcoming the somehow natural fear of falling. The theoretical session was followed by a practical demonstration involving around 13 U14 girls from the local club. Rosana Krajnc did lead the afternoon session with a focus on basic movement literacy of young Volleyball players, followed by a presentation on warm-up and cool-down routines.

Slovenia has been a partner of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ since October 2018 and the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS) managed to involve some 3,750 kids from across 52 clubs and 168 schools throughout the 2023-2024 school year alone. More such activities have taken place earlier this year, thereby laying the foundation for the emergence of the next generation of Volleyball players.
