CEV President welcomes André Meyer back to ‘his home’

On Wednesday morning, CEV President Roko Sikirić had the pleasure of welcoming the former leader of the European Volleyball family, Mr André Meyer, for a much-awaited visit to the CEV headquarters in Luxembourg. It was a quite emotional moment for the man who was at the helm of the organisation from 2001 to 2015, with all CEV staff members coming together to pay their tribute to his work and legacy.
Mr Sikirić openly acknowledged Mr Meyer’s contribution to the growth and current prominent status of European Volleyball: “Welcome back to your home, which you helped establish and shape,” he said while addressing a visibly emotional André Meyer. “We thank you for many years of service and for everything you have done for our volleyball family. We will be happy and grateful to count on your experience and advice as the recently elected leadership embarks on a journey and mission to elevate our sport even further.”
Mr Meyer, who did serve three consecutive terms at the helm of the organisation, was obviously moved by such a warm welcome: “Thank you for your kind words and for your invitation! I wish you all the best in your current and future endeavours for the good of European Volleyball and I take this opportunity to wish everyone working here a happy holiday season as well as all the very best not only for 2025 but for many more years ahead!”
The two – accompanied by CEV Managing Director Vuk Karanović and CEV Vice-President Clodagh Nic Canna of Ireland – spent some hours together for a pleasant and productive exchange of views and experiences, which is certainly going to be highly beneficial at such an early stage of the 2024-2028 term, as President Sikirić and his colleagues wish to capitalise on past achievements to pursue their vision and usher in a new era for European Volleyball.
